Doing a Good Job

"But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away." Isaiah 64:6 KJV

Pride means: "a high or inordinate opinion of one's own dignity, importance, merit, or superiority, whether as cherished in the mind or as displayed in bearing, conduct, etc."

Pride, The First Sin:

Before the world was made, Satan (also called Lucifer) committed the first sin. He had pride in his heart against God, who is the creator of all. He wanted to raise himself, above his position and wanted to raise himself up above God Himself. He believed he could be like God. (Isaiah 14:12-15) He had inner pride. 

The Pharisees were also known for the pride they possessed. They wanted to get noticed for the good things they were doing. They openly prayed and fasted. They tithed and gave of their treasures. (Luke 11:37-44) They had outer pride.

Convicted:

This past week, I have wanted to post several times, but stubbornly refused to. I know what God wanted to me write about..... but I didn't want to do it. So here I am finally writing what God has convicted me of.

I have been working so hard on doing what's right. I had been living my life for the Lord. I have been reading my Bible, living by convictions, raising my girls to know God, submissively loving my husband and serving him.... but all the while, inwardly.... desiring to be recognized for it. I wasn't wanting public recognition but inwardly I had pride against God. I knew it too.

Everyday, for the past week, the main thing God kept showing me is that I had pride in my good works. That is a sin against God. He says in His Word: "all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags". I have apologized to God and confessed my sin. 

I also confess to you... and encourage you to realize that we must all humble ourselves before the Lord. Whether now and here on earth, or up in heaven for the Almighty God. (Romans 14:11)

Your Pride?:

Do you boast about your good works? Do you want recognition for it? 
Do you brag about the skills/talents you have? 
Do you show-off your good looks or amazing possessions?
Do you boast in your riches and wealth?
Do you brag about your children and their abilities?
..........Or do you have inner pride?

Watch out! 

Everything we have (children, assets, riches, possessions) can be taken away from us at a moment (just read the story of Job chapter 1).... even our lives. They are all gifts from God, who created EVERYTHING. :D (Genesis 1-2)

Let us confess our sin of pride and humble ourselves before the Lord. (Psalm 32:5, 1 John 2:16-17) He shall not despise a broken and contrite heart. (Psalm 34:18)

"Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up." James 4:10
